There’s an active recall on tahini sold in multiple states, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). This is due to a potential Salmonella contamination.

The Roland brand Tahini (100% Ground Sesame Seeds) impacted by this recall was sold in 16-ounce containers in retail stores from September 2023 through January 2024. The affected bottles display production code X0419, UPC number 10041224701509 underneath the bar code and have a best by date of October 19, 2024.

The recall was announced after routine sampling by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development revealed that the product tested positive for Salmonella. While there are no illnesses currently connected to this recall, Salmonella is a contagious foodborne infection.

Common symptoms of Salmonella include fever, stomach cramps and diarrhea, and the symptoms can last up to 7 days. Salmonella is not typically life-threatening, but severe cases may lead to hospitalization. If you are experiencing the above effects after consuming this impacted product, contact your health care provider as soon as possible.

If you have the recalled Roland Tahini on hand, dispose of it immediately. For questions regarding this announcement, call the company’s recall hotline at 800-622-1823 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.
