The #1 Frozen Food to Buy at Costco, According to a Food Editor

With this shortcut on hand, I can have a meal on the table in just two minutes!

Costco's freezer aisles are jam-packed with nutritious and tasty finds, from frozen fruit to RD-approved entrees and sides. Keeping a fully stocked freezer comes in handy when I need a quick, filling meal, so I often turn to Costco to help me fill my freezer's shelves. The convenience of a ready-made frozen food can't be beat, especially on days when I'm tired or too lazy to cook. That's why Bibigo's Steamed Dumplings are my No. 1 frozen food to buy at Costco—here's why I love this product.

It's Fast to Make

When I say these dumplings are a no-effort-required meal, I mean it. Each tray comes with six fully cooked dumplings, so they only need a quick spin in the microwave. The dumplings are packaged in a plastic sleeve that helps create steam, resulting in a perfectly tender wrapper. All I do is push a few buttons on the microwave and I'm rewarded with a plate of juicy, steaming dumplings in just two minutes—it truly doesn't get easier than that. I love making these dumplings whenever I need a quick lunch between meetings or am unmotivated to cook dinner at the end of the week.

The dumplings come out hot, so wait a few minutes before digging in. To speed up the cooling process, I like to flip each dumpling upside down in the tray so the bottom can cool as well. Trust me on this tip—I didn't do it the first time, and the roof of my mouth paid dearly for it (to be fair, I was also very eager to eat the dumplings, and I didn't think the steam was going to stop me).

It's Comforting & Delicious

Bibigo sells a variety of Korean dumplings, and I opt for the chicken and vegetable ones. The filling is a mixture of chicken, cabbage and shiitake mushrooms seasoned with garlic, sesame oil and ginger. My favorite part of the filling is the cabbage, as it provides a nice crunch in contrast to the softer ingredients.

Each dumpling is also filled with soup made from a chicken broth base. The flavorful broth is warming on a cold day—although be careful, as the soup can squirt everywhere when you bite into one. The dumplings also come with a dipping sauce featuring soy sauce, green chile puree and vinegar, which balances well with the other flavors and helps cut through the richness.

Bibigo's Steamed Chicken & Vegetable Dumplings are a must-buy item whenever I shop at Costco, and it's a great deal. A box contains six trays (and each tray has six dumplings) for $13.79, or about $2.30 per meal. The next time you're at Costco, I highly recommend adding a box of these frozen dumplings to your cart.
