There’s an active recall on dried mango sold nationwide, according to the Food and Drug Administration. This is due to the product containing undeclared sulfites, which is an allergen.

The affected brand, Golden Owl, issued the recall yesterday when routine sampling by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets found sulfites in the product. Sulfites are generally marked as safe by the FDA, but they must be declared on products that contain them, due to allergies and sensitivities. This product did not have the correct labeling on the packaging, thus the recall.

The impacted dried mango products were sold in 7-ounce clear plastic containers displaying a UPC 816710-024461 on the left side of the packaging.

There are currently no illnesses connected to this recall, but those with a sulfite allergy risk experiencing serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product, including anaphylaxis

Check your kitchen, and if you have the recalled dried mango on hand, the FDA recommends returning it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 215-456-1883, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.
