News Grocery & Food News Dave’s Killer Bread Just Released a New High-Fiber Product You’ll Want With Dinner Every Night My long search for more flavorful and nutritious dinner rolls has finally ended. By Dillon Evans Dillon Evans Dillon Evans fell in love with cooking at a very young age. He remembers the novel experiences of microwaving a bowl of oatmeal without his parents' permission and asking to make his mother's morning pot of coffee. These moments became catalysts for his interest in cooking and baking. EatingWell's Editorial Guidelines Trending Videos Close this video player Photo: Courtesy of Brand Before special dinners, I often go to the bread aisle to meet an inevitable realization: Not only had I run out of the time and motivation to make some of the best homemade rolls, but also the bread selection had little to no whole-grain and whole-wheat dinner roll options. Maybe it’s the way they activate your taste buds or simply the influence of Texas Roadhouse’s infamous bread baskets, but dinner rolls truly make the southern dinner table go ‘round. As a Georgia boy who wants to prioritize protein and fiber, I’ve always struggled with how difficult it is to find whole-wheat and whole-grain rolls at the grocery store… until now. Dave’s Killer Bread (DKB), a company known for its organic bread products, just released its newest Rock ‘N’ Rolls. The 12-pack of whole-grain dinner rolls uses their signature blend of 21 grains and seeds, and it features exactly the first ingredient I’ve been looking for: whole-wheat flour. It was an exciting day when I found out the product was on its way to stores—and an even more exciting moment when I got to try them for myself. Many dinner rolls emphasize a shiny, egg-washed surface. The exterior texture of DKB’s, on the other hand, takes on a more delicate crumb you get with rustic sandwich bread. The tops are also speckled with plenty of the whole grains and seeds used in the bread, including oats, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds and flaxseed. These, combined with the wheat flour mixture used in the dough, give the rolls a nutty and tangy flavor. I find they taste very similar to sourdough with a soft texture that’s reminiscent of other popular dinner rolls. The Rock ‘N’ Rolls aren’t too shabby in the nutrition department, either. Similar to common refined-wheat rolls, each serving has 3 grams of added sugar. However, that comes along with 3 grams of dietary fiber per serving, which meets our high-fiber nutrition parameters. The amount of fiber in these rolls is my favorite aspect of the product. Fiber is a nutrient I prioritize in my eating pattern, since it helps me feel satisfied quickly and stay full for longer. And a few grams can go a long way in helping you enjoy your meals in moderation. Not to mention, the whole grains and seeds that contribute this fiber content offer other nutrients like antioxidants, vitamins and healthy fats that your body needs to thrive. I'm a Dietitian, and This Is My Favorite Healthy Bread Additionally, every serving has 5 grams of protein, which helps add even more staying power. Protein is an essential macronutrient that’s key to many bodily functions like healthy digestion, bone strength, muscle recovery and more. So, I love that these dinner rolls have a couple extra grams compared to refined grain varieties that might have only 2 or 3 grams. DKB’s new rolls are both nutrient-dense and really flavorful. They’re good enough that I’m making them the star of the show on even weeknights. In fact, I just enjoyed some steamed Rock ‘N’ Rolls as sliders with crispy cod, tartar sauce and American cheese. I would say I couldn’t stop eating them, but as I mentioned, these rolls are seriously filling. You could also use them as your go-to whole-grain rolls for a number of delicious recipes like our Vegetarian Antipasto Sliders. Or, serve them as a side dish with dinners like our new Chicken Milanese with Arugula-Cherry Tomato Salad. No matter the setting, I’m sure you and your household will love them.
